Gatorade is a wonderful drink for those who need to re-hydrate, but with all the talk in the news about additives and such – sometimes it can be worth making your own drink mix so you know exactly what is in it. Here are a couple of Gatorade style drink mixes I have found.
Homemade Gatorade-style Drink mix Recipe 1
This recipe is my favorite. This one also works well for my daughter who has to be on a low sugar diet. I make 1 gallon at a time since we go through more Gatorade in our house. When making 1 gallon at a time, double the ingredients.
- 32 oz water
- ¼ cup sugar
- ¼ tsp. salt
- ½ packet unsweetened Kool-aid
- 1 Tbsp. lemon juice (Optional)
Mix together and chill.
Homemade Gatorade-style Drink mix Recipe 2
This one is not bad but it takes longer to make and I did not like the flavor of it as much.
- ½ Cup Orange Juice
- ¼ Cup Sugar
- ¼ tsp. Sea Salt
- 1 Tbsp. Lemon Juice
- Ice Cubes
- 16 oz. Water Bottle
Add Sugar and salt to ½ cup hot water and stir to dissolve.
Add orange juice and lemon juice.
Fill a 16 oz water bottle with ice cubes.
Pour only enough of the mix to fill the bottle ½ way.
Fill the bottle the remainder of the way with cold water and shake to help give the ice a chance to cool the mixture.
